Basketball season has come to a close at Florida Tech.

After a blind draw determined the seeding for the 2021 Sunshine State Conference Tournament, the boys lost against Saint Leo at the Bowman Center during the semifinal of the tournament. The Panthers came up short 78-68 and are now eliminated from the tournament, thus ending their 2021 season. Runako Ziegler led Florida tech with 17 points, followed up by Mekhii Noble and Nieja Jordan both with 15 points.

The Crimson and Gray remained within striking distance for most of the second half, but were missing that final offensive burst. The Lions answered every Panthers run and began to heat up from range in the period.

Coach Mims said that they came into the game feeling very good about the progress the team made over the season.

“This season our guys got a free year to develop, gain some experience, learn about each other, the league and the game of college basketball," Mims said.

The lady Panthers ended their season in March, falling in the opening round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament against Palm Beach. Zoe Murphy led all Panthers in points and rebounds as she had 16 and 7, respectively. The Crimson and Gray got off to a slow start but the final few minutes saw the Lady Panthers bringing the deficit down to 21-11.

This ends Florida Tech’s 2021 season. Both teams now turn their focus to the practice court, as they ready themselves for the upcoming year.
