Florida Tech hosted a COVID-19 vaccine drive for students, faculty, staff and their dependents in the Clemente Center today from 9a.m. to 1p.m.

Florida Department of Health - Brevard administered the first dose of the Moderna vaccine. A second event will provide the second dose on May 28.

At check-in, participants filled out a consent form and were then guided to one of the several vaccine stations.

Once the first dose was administered, participants moved to a waiting area where healthcare professionals would check in frequently to monitor symptoms. The wait time before leaving was 15-30 minutes, depending on factors such as food or medication allergies.

Krishna Patel, director of student wellness and programming, said approximately 300 people RSVP'd to the drive with about half being students and the other half faculty and staff.

“We are definitely wanting to work with the health department again and do one in the fall when a majority of students return,” Patel said.

Patel stated that there may be another vaccine drive over the summer depending on availability of the health department and need of students, faculty and staff.
